I just purchased a 1966 VW bug in great shape (I think). I'm a software engineer and have never done much work on cars, but I would really like to learn to maintain and upgrade my bug.

Its all orange, and I decorated it like a jack o'lantern for halloween. I cut out a face from sheets of vinyl sticker material. I also carved a pumpkin stem out of foam, glued magnets to the foam, and stuck the stem to the roof.

I just ordered a replace window winder and seat belts for the back seat. My next project is fixing my turn signals and horn. I'd love to attend any meetings to get information on maintenance.

I just looked at the car in your profile. Mine is not even close to that nice. Normally, I'm a DIYer. I'm the kind of guy that will spend $200 to do it myself (wrong once or twice), rather than buy it or pay $100 for somebody else to do it. I have a lot of done and partially completed projects. This is the first time I bought the project already done. I needed a daily driver to get to work and back, and it seems so wasteful to buy a $20,000 car or a $2000 piece of crap that's going to break in a year. I spent considerably less than $20,000 for a reliable car that should be easy to maintain myself, and, in my opinion, with more style than a new $40,000+ car. I honestly don't think I will ever buy a new car for myself again.

Sweet bug! It's pretty quiet here these days, unfortuately. :boink:

There are cruise nights at the Lowe's in Pearland on Fridays and Home Depot in Kemah on Saturdays. Can't promise I'll be there every week but I try to hit one or the other.

I believe the next show is in March in Nacodoches but, hopefully, some other stuff will happen before that.
