I obtained a 68 beetle about a year ago and decided to do an engine overhaul to address some issues. Oil leaks and studs pulling out mainly. I live in Cypress NW Houston area and looking for someone close that can assist with some of the work. I have been trying to contact Texas Air Cooled but they do not seem to be in business anymore. Or at least are not answering their phone for several days now. I made two trips to their shop during business hours only to find it closed.

I pulled the engine from the car and have removed the cylinders. A couple of the studs would not torque down and are visibly longer now than the others. I understand there is a repair kit and process but not sure I wish to tackle this on my own.

Any suggestions on someone nearby that can do some of this work?
Any suggestions on a good place to buy parts, cylinders, pistons, gaskets, etc. I have bought some stuff from Jbugs but would like to go more local if possible.

Thanks in advance for any help

Try KAR Parts on Greens Rd. 832-243-1616. Talk to Kermit. He also works on them.

Get a couple of the manuals. Bently is a good one also the How to Keep Your VW Alive. Read up on it. Not a hard job, just take your time and watch what you are doing.
