time to restore

We have a 78 VW Westfalia camper van that we cannot part with. It was our lifeline to family in California when we were in grad school and gave us vacations we would not have otherwise enjoyed. Now in 2009, the van has been in our garage for years and we would like to restore it. Does anyone have suggestions for a shop that could do the work?

what type of resto do you need? just mechanicals or paint, body and interior?

We need a bit of everything. The van has not been driven for years, so a good mechanic is needed. I am not much of a mechanic. Anything more than a tune up is over my head. It has a bit over 90K miles, so I suspect an engine rebuild may be in order. There is a crack in the what I think is the steering gear box. It needs stuffing replaced in the seats, a headliner and door panels. It has minor body damage and a needs a rear window, thanks to the nice kids in our old neighborhood. It needs a new seal around the poptop. Other than that, it is fine, LOL. I would appreciate any help the members can offer, Norbert

Hmmm. 2 liter type 4 engine. they aren't bad to work on. maybe you can join us on one of our next "tinker" sessions and we can hone your mechanical skills. Oh and :welcome:
