Check Engine Light gives a code for Glow Plug #1. Slow to warm up too. I've replaced Glow Plugs. Now I'm looking for the controller/relay. I can follow the Glow Plug wire up to the firewall and a plastic housing, but I can figure out how to get the thing open or find the module inside under the dash. It's on a Mk4 TDI. Has anyone replaced one of these? I'd appreciate the advice.
Thanks,

I would check with Steve at Star-lite. He'll know what to do!

I know, but I could fix it myself if I could just find it.

My prob on mine was I didn't replace number 1 but number 4. Number 1 is on the driver side of the car and had to manuely clear light at auto zone using there tool after changing glow plug but no I don't about a controler.

I just had the plug 1 error on my 2004 beetle. Turns out there is a recall for many of then TDIs and they will swap all the glow plugs (changing from ceramic to steel). I did replace the power rail for them at my expense. I have 115K on my 04 so this was a great deal for me.

Here are the cars and the link to the VW technical info:
2004-2005 Golf, Jetta, Jetta Wagon, Beetle 1.9L TDI (BEW)
2004-2005 Passat, Passat Wagon 2.0L TDI (BHW)
2004 Touraeg 5.0L TDI (BKW)

Thanks, but mine is an '03. Cool site, though. I like the turbo upgrade at http://dieselinside.com/?p=161
180 hp 310 ft-lbs. That's got to be scary fast!

I'd check the Glow Plug harness, after taking a close look (in Bright Daylight), mine had cracks in it. Had it replaced, still has Check Engine light. I need to get someone to clear the code & see if it comes back. If you go to buy a harness, check the spacing between the Glow Plugs. For 2003 there were 2 different ones, of course, I got the wrong one the first time. Good Luck.

dont the codes clear if you disconnect the battery for a certain amount of time?
